During our honeymoon planning, I stumbled upon a new service by Airbnb called “Airbnb Experiences”. The experiences are unique classes and tours offered by locals in select cities. While looking for a possible activity for our one year anniversary, I came across a pasta cooking class located just outside of Florence that looked much more authentic and intimate than other cooking classes I had been reading about. While this experience is listed at about 6 ½ hours, Brad and I figured this class was the perfect way to slow down and really enjoy our special day. Since we had our anniversary photoshoot at sunrise, we had just enough time to go back to our apartment, change, then head to the train station where we’d meet our cooking hosts.
Love x Food founders Luca and Lorenzo are a married couple who are passionate about cooking and have opened up their home to teach their family recipes. We were greeted at Santa Maria Novella station where our small group took a train to their home in the Chianti hills. Once we arrived, fresh ingredients from their personal garden were picked to use for the fresh pasta and the dessert we were going to make. We were treated with breakfast, snacks and plenty of wine while we worked. That day we learned to make ravioli, carbonara & lavender panna cotta, all from scratch. It turned out to be the best meal we had in Florence. The time flew by and it was the most fun I’ve ever had in a cooking class. It honestly felt like we were visiting and catching up with long time friends. This was the highlight of our time in Florence and the perfect “Texas sized” way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We will definitely sign up again the next time we visit Florence. Here is their link if you’re interested in this experience. Book in advance since their slots fill up quickly!
